T.J. Mueller (Timothy John Mueller) is an American painter born in Maryland, who currently resides and works in San Francisco, California. Mueller’s Art From Above® works are hyper-realistic paintings with a birds eye view vantage point of both cities and landscapes across the world. These traditional oil paintings are all original, and serve “as an educational vehicle for the conservation of humanity and culture.” Each of his paintings are rendered from aerial photographs taken by Mueller himself. Mueller first began taking these aerial photographs using cameras attached to balloons and kites, or would even climb to the tops of buildings in order to achieve the best vantage point. Throughout his career, Mueller has been able to adapt his use of technology to drones, and now flies in helicopters and planes to capture the perfect image for reference for his paintings.
